This service has the mission to serve the Romanians who live abroad, so they can be somehow closer to their native country. Linking them to the holy monasteries from North Moldavia could be a source of strength and also a continuity of the traditional orthodox belief, the center of a meaningful living.

Liturgical diptychs

1. What are the liturgical diptychs?
In essence, no matters of their category, the liturgical diptychs are lists of living or departed persons that are being read during divine services for various purposes: eternal rest, health, wellbeing etc

2. What is the history of the liturgical diptychs in our country?
In the Romanian cultural inheritance are found numerous diptychs, older or newer, linked to historical buildings or families, written on various supports and in various forms: right on the church inner walls, on metal or wood support, painted, sculptured and joined as diptics or triptics, on pasteboard and marble plates, in rectangular, square and other shapes, on parchments and paper etc.

At Putna monastery are exposed two diptychs made of wood, in shape of trip tics, and two made of paper, bonded as books, all from the 18-th century. The first two are from Sihastria Putnei and they are very modest in dimensions and artistically realization and also in their historical source. One of them, the smallest, has a combined writing (Slavonic and Romanian); the other is written only in Romanian, with chirilic characters.

More important, from any point of view, are the two diptychs bonded in tomes, from which one was made at Sihastria Putnei too and the other right at Putna. Both are written in Romanian, with chirilic characters, and are noticeable for their rich decorations and also for some interesting information they provide about the life and the inhabitants of the two monasteries, especially about the bishop Iacov Putneanul, a great Romanian scholar and patriot from the 18-th century. He is the third founder of the Putna monastery and, among others, the initiator of the Diptych written here.

3. What is the traditional use of the liturgical diptychs?
  • Commemoration for the eternal rest of the departed
  • Mentioning the living for health and wellbeing
  • Healing physical and mental suffering
  • Succeeding in exams, competitions, jobs interviews etc
  • Living meaningful relationships
  • Succeeding in business
